Holy Cross High School Chorley Girls Netball Champions Class of 1976. Miss Marion Eccles Team

Holy Cross High School Chorley, class of 76, girls netball team. Our team was always featured in the Chorley Guardian. In 1974 we took part in the UK National championships. Altogether 48 teams from schools throughout the country took part. Preliminary rounds were on a league basis with the top teams going through to a knock out. In the semi final Holy Cross (my team) beat Pemwortham Girls Grammer school 12-2 and we beat our own B team in the final 9-7, Shows what a great Netball coach the teams had to end up playing against their own B team in the finals. They owed their great success to their fantastic coach and inspirational teacher Miss Marion Eccles, "If you try hard enough you can achieve anything" Miss Eccles would say to her teams, and it's the same in life, I owe some of my own success to a great teacher. So thanks from me and all the team. Pic. above: proudly showing our trophy's Andrea Noblett, goal attack holding ball

Pictured Left, left to right, Mr Vincent Hourahane, Headmaster, Holy Cross High School Chorley, presenting the trophy to his own school team, Cathy Knowles, (captain) Alison Hill, Shirley Phillips, Janet Monk, Jackie Fielding and Andrea Noblett.
